Getting your knee fixed.

  • James Martin asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

    Hi,

I recently strained my MCL and have a tear in my medial miniscus on my right knee during my ski holiday (left is uninjured).

I have been recommended to continue to attend physio twice a week for the next few months to aid recovery.

I have heard good things but wanted to enquire what sort of cost there is for an hour session of physio on a grade 1 MCL and miniscus tear?

    Thanks,

    James,

  • The Six Physio Guru responded:

    Hi James

Glad you've heard good things about us on the grapevine. An initial 1 hour session costs £78.

The MCL shouldn't present as a problem, but depending on where the meniscal tear is and what your mechanics are like, it'll need keeping an eye on it. Both issues are treated in a common vein - promoting alignment, control and stability. Strength comes along a little later...

    Hope to see you soon.

    Hi,

5 days ago I was playing rugby and damaged the MCL in my right knee while being tackled. I went to the doctor today to see if he could advise me on the extent of the damage and he said he'd have to refer me to get an MRI scan to determine whether it was a pull, tear, or rupture. Unfortunately, the earliest I can get it on the NHS is 6-8 weeks from now, which I feel is too long to wait. Can you recommend anywhere in London where I can get an MRI scan done privately (even though I don't have private medical insurance)?

    Thanks,

    Si
