  • Kristie Barrett asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

Hi im currently training for the london marathon however im now suffering itb injury which started around the 20th december at that point i was running 15 miles! since i have rested had sports massage and have just exercised at the gym which has been fine. Last weekend I went for a run but only managed 3 miles and the pain started so I stopped I then tried to walk for a bit then run when the pain disapeared but it just came straight back. What would you suggest I do? do you think I will be able to run the london marathon? Many thanks Kristie Barrett

  • The Six Physio Guru responded:

...crikey Don't dispare BUT I do think from what you've described that this is not a simple "rest it and it will go" jobbie. It sounds mechanical and if you want to progress then you'll need your mechanics looking at.... Sorry I can't just say do this or do that...:( Where abouts are you? Sure I can recommend a name or 2 Let me know The Guru

  • Kristie Barrett responded:

I live in Taunton Somerset? When you say mechanics what exactly do you mean? Thanks

  • The Six Physio Guru responded:

Hi Kristie Mechanics are your foot posture, your shoe influencing your foot posture, your glut control over the entire lower limb, the control of you thigh rolling in excessively when you strike the ground (you do, hence the friction. You've lost control somewhere and need to get it back) and the effect of your spine on your hips......that's a start! It's also why you need to see someone who knows their mustard. Unfortunately I know a good few, but not that far SW..... Good Luck. The Guru

  • Kristie Barrett responded:

Ok thanks for info but who Would you recomend I see a physio therapist or chiropracter? And who could you recommend closet to me? Thanks

  • The Six Physio Guru responded:

There's a Physio in Exeter who's pretty handy. Doesn't really matter who to see as long as they can relate your pain and pathology to your dysfunction. Ask questions and make sure they make sense to you. Things just don't happen. It normally a consequence of overuse.... The Guru
