Hi I have had a problem with my r-knee for some time the problem is when I do a long run the knee starts to hurt at about 45 mins into my run I have to stop for afew mins and the pain goes. Start running again and the problem comes back. now I am training for the Brigthon marathon which is in 8 weeks . I have seen three physics about this problem do lots of legs work in the gym and use the foam roller and have sports massages so if any one can help and point me in the right way to cure my knee thank you very much.
Hi Darren Where in your knee is the pain? What's going up and down stairs like? Any swelling? Ever injured it? What's been said so far? Cheers The Guru
DeHi what do you think about taking painkillers when doing the long run as training for a marathon if its ok which ones are the best
Yup, from the email before sounds like and ITB type problem (at a very long push a cycst in your lateral meniscus - but why complicate the issue!?). Things like massage (to the right and not the wrong places) will make you feel nice as will foam rolling. BUT if nobody has said what is the cause of the problem, you're a bit stuffed! Usual suspects are shoes, foot posture, patella (particulary) position, glut control and spinal position. What's your single leg squat like?? Have physio looked at this? What part of the country are you in as I may be able to point you in the right direction..... As this is an inflam problem then get on the Ibuprofen (as long as you are OK taking them and not asthmatic) rather that a pain killer.
Thank you for the info my single leg squat is good been working on that for afew months also working with a personal trainer at the gym now to get me and my legs in the best shape a can for the Brigthon marathon in 7 wkd time also only get problem in r-knee l-knee is fine im in London and work in west end and the city is that good for you ? What about orthotics will that help me
Yeasy peasy - instead of email banter come and see me in harley street for a 15 minute swing by - bring your shoes and I'll point you in the right direction? No charge from me! The Guru
