England have suffered a last-minute blow on the eve of their Six Nations opener against Wales as Riki Flutey is struggling with sports injury treatment. Dead leg rules Flutey out of England Six Nations opener England have suffered a last-minute blow on the eve of their Six Nations opener against Wales as Riki Flutey is struggling with sports injury treatment.

The inside centre suffered a knock to the thigh in training and is out of the match with a dead leg.

Coming in to replace him is Leicester's Toby Flood who has been promoted to join Matthew Tait in the centre to form a new midfield partnership.

An RFU statement said: "Following assessment of the injury by the England medical staff this morning, it has been decided that he would not recover sufficiently to take part in the RBS Six Nations international against Wales at Twickenham Stadium tomorrow."

The opportunity sees the tables turning for Flood as he was forced to miss both the summer tour and autumn series as he was undergoing sports injury treatment himself.

Bath centre Shontayne Hape will replace Flood on the bench.

Yesterday, it was reported that Wales will be without Gethin Jenkins as the prop has suffered a calf injury.ADNFCR-2859-ID-19600961-ADNFCR
