Sports injuries mount up for England cricket team

  • Thursday, 04 March 2010 18:22
England bowlers Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad have both suffered sports injuries during the current tour of Bangladesh. Sports injuries mount up for England cricket team

Sidebottom is returning home with a thigh injury and will be replaced in the England Test squad by Tim Bresnan.

Meanwhile, Broad was forced to miss training with a back problem sustained during his second over in the one-day international victory over Bangladesh this week.

Broad continued to bowl for four more overs before leaving the field for sports injury treatment.

International cricket is notorious for its punishing schedule and Broad's latest injury adds weight to the argument that players are put under too much pressure to perform even when carrying knocks.

The repetitive process of a bowler's run-up puts consistent strain on the body's key pressure points and has the been the main cause of Andrew Flintoff's recurring sports injuries.
