Gallas injury linked to lower back pain

  • Tuesday, 09 March 2010 17:39
William Gallas has been ruled out of Arsenal's Champions League match against FC Porto tonight with a calf injury. Gallas injury linked to lower back pain

In his report on the injury, manager Arsene Wenger said the injury stems from lower back pain, the Guardian reported.

Wenger could not put a time-frame on the defender's recovery but said: "Gallas has been out for a month and now he has had a recurrence of his calf injury. He felt very well on Sunday and went out but he has gone backwards again. We are at the starting point with Gallas unfortunately. At the beginning, it was a minor injury."

Arsenal have been hit by a number of injury problems ahead of the game, with Cesc Fabregas also ruled out with a recurrence of hamstring trouble.

Meanwhile, Wenger said that Andrey Arshavin would not be able to play the full 90 minutes as he recovers from his own hamstring problem.

Sol Campbell, who has recovered from a groin strain, will start alongside Thomas Vermaelen tonight in place of the injured Gallas.

Arsenal are hoping to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Porto.
