Burning in both shoulder blades

Hi there. I suffer from occasional stiff necks, but more often, burning in both shoulder blades and across the top of my back into my neck. At the minute the base of my head is very painful with pain radiating into my temples and ears. The burning makes me want to constantly dig something into my shoulder blades.
I have been told that my back muscles are extremely tight. What can I do to relieve this?
