Groin Strain

Jan 11th, 2014

Tashy asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

I pulled a muscle in my groin whilst running. I has been in moderate pain for over a week. Can you advise what I should do?

The Guru Responded:

Hi Tashy
.
All depends on what you’ve done in this last week….I’ll take it that you’ve followed the PRICE principle – if not, then do.
.
If you have, and there is no bruising then it may not be a groin muscle but referred pain from your back.
.
If there is bruising then you need to give it more time and slowly start to stretch to restore length NOT gain more. You’ll also need to get the muscle contracting by looking at the strenght component. Weightbearing control exercises and balance work is really important.
.
If there is no real change in another 10 days then you will need to seek advice. If it gets worse, then sooner rather than later.
.
Sorry for being vague!
