Severe Neck Pain

Dear Guru
i have been suffering with back of the neck pain stuff neck.
I cannot move my neck or even head when it’s real bad.
What may. this be? Thank you.

Hi Sierra
It’s probably nothing serious and probably no more troublesome than an irritated and over stretched joint at the top of your neck.
What happens is your body detects that you’ve been overusing, and over working a joint and to limit the ongoing irritation the local muscles surrounding the joint stiffen up to protect the irritated joint – this is why it feels really stiff.
What you need to do is make sure you get your thoracic spine (and lower neck) to move better, to allow the irritated joint to settle.
