3 peaks walk

Alex asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

Hi There,

I’m attempting the 3 peaks challange on Friday/Saturday. I’ve been training a lot, and my fitness is definately good enough, but I am worried about cramping up. Recently my calves have been very, very tight and I think I may be developing the first symptoms of shin splints. Would a sports massage be a good way of loosening up and help prevent cramping on the mountains?

Hi Alex
Absolutely right about the sports massage, it’ll be vital at this stage. Foam rollering is also on the money.
Looking slightly longer term I’d have a look at your foot posture, control and footwear. I’m sure there’s a mismatch somewhere. Keep hydrated, warm and well fed.
