Achilles heel

February 26, 2019

I think I have damaged my achilles heel tendon, it’s been painful for 2 weeks now and I’m enquiring as to what your advice would be?

Thanks

Seb

Hi Seb – depends on quite a few things, unfortunately.

Tendons can be tricky…

I think as an easy win I’d stop ALL calf muscle stretching, add a small heel raise into your shoes and do some really simple, static standing on top toe on 1 leg and holding it for 40 seconds – with a bent and straight knee. This would be for starters…

Your activity level depends on what it was but I’d say if you do anything that’s acutely painful then stop but also see how you feel the morning after – that’s the best to make sure you’re are not over loading your tendon.
