Ankle surgery on tendons

September 13, 2017

I had surgery on ankle bone where they made a groove in the ankle for the tendons to sit as the foot kept dislocating. original injury from hitting ankle into a metal bar kick boxing.

Clicking has recently started in the ankle which is concerning me as I’m wondering if the tendons are now not in the groove?

please help

Hi Adrienne

I’ll take it that you had dislocating tendons not foot??

Sometimes you get snapping tendons on the outside of your ankle when your peroneal tendons misbehave.

I’m sure this is what’s going on now – and there are a few different lines of thought.

First being it needs an operation as the tendon is not being kept in the groove and will lead to attritional wear, and so it needs to be cuffed down.

The second is if you do not get any pain apart from the snap then hold fire and work on your single leg stability and control, as you’ve had an op and the integrity of the tissue is still intact but you’ve lost control of it, and need to get it back.

There’s a third which is between the 2!

I’d email your OS and ask their opinion as they’d probs know best…
