Bilateral 5th metatarsal head swelling and pain

April 3, 2014

Dear Guru,
Over the last 6 months or so I am experiencing pain on the bilateral 5th metatarsal head on both feet but more pronounced in my left foot. On the left it is also lightly swollen. I have seen my GP who referred me to a podiatrist but since it takes weeks for them to be able to see me (both NHS and private!) I was wondering whether proper insoles could do any good and
relieve the pain in the meantime? If so, where would you recommend I would get them from?
Many thanks in advance for your help and kind regards,
Eva

Absolutely – sounds like you need some orthotics, off the shelf or custom made.

There are lots out there – all doing slightly different things to the same thing!

I think I’d pick up the phone and get another appointment with a podiatrist

I hope you’ve been sorted by now..

….really sorry for the delay
