Leg pain walking

February 18, 2019

I have an elderly friend with behind leg pain when walking, he is on warfarin.

Can you determine what this is?

It’s been painful for 3 weeks on walking, but a few nights ago whilst he was asleep the pain shifted from his calf up to his butt behind leg. He is 79 years old.

Any bruising or back pain or pins and needles?

Nicci replies:

Nope, none of the below. It hurts when walking down the stairs not walking up. Also if I ask him to sit on s sofa and then elevate his leg to same level as sofa, it hurts.

Thank you

Hi Nicci

It sounds as if he might have an issue with his sciatic nerve, and whilst not having any back pain I would suspect this is an issue with his back.

Maybe a visit to his GP to confirm this  and then set about seeing a Physio for a rehab program.
