Nigel has suspected plantar fasciitis

September 5, 2017

Hi, underneath my left foot just inboard of the arch I have pain especially when I try and point my big toe forward. It appears to be  tendonitis but could you advise and how do I get rid of it. I have had the pain approx. 8 weeks and haven’t run at all, I have stuck to swimming recently

Hi Nigel

I’d suspect something more ugly like plantar fasciitis – the PF inserts to the base of your big toe (and a few other places) and so when you lift your toe your (over) stretch your PF.

There are a few simple things that you can do like don’t poke or rub the sore spot, don’t be tempted to stretch it and make sure your don’t go bare footed (even first thing in the morning).

Instead considered an off the shelf orthotics to support your hind foot (and also your arch), practice your balance lots of times every day and get your calf “released” but not by stretching it, and of course try this taping at home

It can linger a while, so don’t give up hope after a few weeks
