Plantar fasciitis and orthotics

Where are you on orthotics for plantar fasciitis?

Hi Gary

I’m sure there is an evidence based, diplomatic reply out there somewhere!

Instead I’ll give my personal view and that is it helps for some people, some of the time with some types of plantar foot pain.

There are a few factors to consider – foot and shoe type, time with symptoms, activity levels and what else are you doing.

I very rarely think they are the sole (geddit!) saving grace – that’s just too passive a treatment modality for a functional issue. But I think if taping helps and decent footwear helps then using a decent off the shelf orthotic that provides hind foot posting (not just arch support) is a decent 6 week resting device whilst you crack on with your rehab.

That’s it….
