Plantar fasciitis and shin splints

January 12, 2014

Mark asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

Hi,

I think I’ve got plantar fasciitis and a recurring shin splints problem in my right leg. What could you do to treat this? How much treatment do these problems normally require and what is the cost?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark

2 symptoms, 1 cause.

Don’t chase the painful bits (or stretch them) but find out why. Is it running/biking technique? Is it due to poor lower limb control and stability (which is likely)? Or is it just because, which is tricky as it doesn’t really tell you anything about why.

These things do get better as long as your symptoms can be related to cause, how long you’ve has them for and what do you need to do to improve your control and stability.

Our fees are £78 for the initial hours consultation and intervention. We should be able to tell you prognosis and be more correct at predicting a sensible time scale to either get you back to 100% or just enough to keep you going.
