The Guru tells Rich that if he has a suspected foot fracture then a CT is advisable

November 3, 2014

I have had this pain since skiing last March in my right foot, I keep thinking that I have some sort of slight fracture, what would be my next step?

Hi Rich

If you suspect a fracture then an X-ray or CT scan is advisable. I mention CT due to the time period.

Fractures of feet, especially toes generally “heal” within a 12 week period. The pain limits usage and weight bearing to allow the fracture to consolidate. You’re well out of this period.

So if it’s broken and healing slowly can you influence the hearing rate? Yes – get it in a Aircast boot to fully immobilise it…which is great as long as it’s a fracture! You may also have some weird metabolic activity in the bone which slows healing.

There are also a myriad of other things that it could be, which I’d suspect over a fracture.

Where does it hurt and when?
