Torn Calf

January 11, 2014

Hi,
I’ve torn the calf muscle of my left leg and my GP advised rest n taking ibrofen..Well been doing it since 25th August but not much improvement. Visited A&E and been given some crutches but still very painful to walk.

The muscle is very tense and occasionally goes into spasm at night. Do you think some physio would help?? THANX

Hi Marta

Absolutely, yes!

If you’ve suffered a big tear (bruising maybe a dent and swollen) then you’re in the right time frames. If not, then you’re possibly behind the curve. Do not be tempted to do too much too soon or without proper guidance of what to expect.

Crutches are good and if it’s painful to walk then use the crutches to walk otherwise you can extend the tear or prevent it from healing. You’re 10 days in and you cells are starting to proliferate. They need to be lined up, starting to take load and accept stretch…..
