Marathon Training – Knee injury

April 3, 2014

Hi there,

I am desperately hoping you can help me – I am training for the London Marathon, but in the last few weeks, as I have stepped up my distances I have been having a lot of problems with my knees. After a painful half marathon on Saturday I was in a lot of discomfort (very acute pain under the knee cap), some visible swelling and could barely walk afterwards). My knees feel ok again now, but this is not the first time this has happened and I am very concerned that I may not be able to complete the marathon.

The problem only ever presents itself after about 8 miles, and can affect either knee. I have tried strapping it up but it doesn’t seem to help. Do these symptoms sound familiar at all? Do you think I would benefit from sports physiotherapy?

Thanks Fern

….really sorry for the delay, but yes – get to see someone (hopefully you already have!)

Your taping versus a really decent physio taping are very, very different 😉
