Pain in knee

November 25, 2022

I was in a car accident about a year ago and my knee was hit. It was extremely painful at first and I could not stand or bear any weight on it. The pain subsided over the following days and then only became painful when I exercised or walked up stairs. A few weeks after the crash I was exercising and the pain came back noticeably. Now every time I walk up stairs and every time I exercise it’s painful and I cannot stand on it.

Should I go to A&E or a minor injuries unit at the hospital? Would you be able to assess what has happened and do you have radiologists on staff / X-ray / Ultrasound.

Is this something you can help with?

Thanks

Hi Katherine

I don’t think you need a scan or an xray but probably a decent assessment and a comprehensive treatment plan from a decent Physio.

Off the cuff it sounds as if you’ve got an issue with the under surface of your knee cap, which is highly sensitive to load (the stairs gives it away). It probably “bruised” in the RTA and has remained sensitive to how you take pressure through your knee.

By getting your hip and knee stronger will help with the sensitivity, and you’ll feel less pain. Taping might also help too.

Let me know if I can arrange an appointment for you.
