Dee has neck pain

March 22, 2017

Hi, I wake each morning with a pain going from the bottom of my head down my neck, on the right hand side.  I’ve had this for a few months now and it goes away almost as soon as i’m out of bed but a dull ache lingers.

Could you help please?

Hi Dee

Easy one this – you need to make your thoracic spine move more to allow your neck to move relatively less.

You can do this in a few different ways

Either control the way your neck moves buy changing your pillow configuration – you don’t need a Tempur pillow, but you’ve got either too much pillow, or too little pillow support – change something!

The pillow trick is great at making you feel better, but doesn’t change the why’s.

You need to get the middle bit of your back moving better during the day, so you’ve got the ability to move better when you’re in bed to take the excessive pressure off of your neck, and start to feel less in the mornings. Think of it like a bruise – you need to remove the pressure.

The way how you sit at work and especially how you watch TV at night or use your phone or laptop/PC in the evening are also all key.

Try doing this stretch every evening for 10′ and see how you feel in a week from today.
