Maya’s hamstring tightness is from lack of strength so the Guru suggests an S&C programme

May 18, 2015

Hi, I was doing lots of HIIT training last year and then started the Insanity programme and felt a lot of tightness in my right hamstring. Its never been the same since and flares up if I do a lot of exercise.

I was running recently and experienced an extreme burning pain in my right hip for 24 hours after.

What can I do to relieve this and get back to training at full potential?

Thank you, Maya

Hi Maya

Good steer on the HIIT program – one  of the issues is that despite the HI bit there is very little work on getting stronger – and I think this is where your issue lies.

Your hamstring tightness is due to a lack of strength rather than true muscle tightness that needs stretching.

Embark on a S&C program that beefs up your hammies, gluts and calfs.

Give it 3 weeks or so and I’m sure (see below!) you’ll feel heaps different.

If you think that when doing any of the above makes any of your symptoms worse then stop – it might be a nerve/back issue. Classically burning pains can mean nerve irritation, but as it was a once off…
