New Shoes!

Jan 10th, 2014

James asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

I recently got some new trainers, after being recommended them by various assistants. After my first run I noticed localised pain in my right arch. I rested it for 4 days & then ran 2 days in a row & the pain is back, worse than ever.

I’m starting to worry it could be a stress fracture or possibly plantar fasciitis??

The Guru Responded:

Hi James

I think you’d be very, very, very unfortunate to get a stress fracture, unless you’ve bunged in lots of extra miles.

The pain does sound plantar fascia-ish. I do think the shoes could be the problem, though.

Rest, don’t stretch your PF and return your shoes to the shop where they came from. Any decent running shop worth their salt would accept the shoes back if, on their recommendation, they are not right for your foot posture or running style.
